Greetings from the Rockies-- Woke up early this morning... back to editing... here is my shot of Hugh.... |
| I like this shot. What an interesting guy. His story and sense of humor reminds me of so many southern folks. And yes, he does remind me of John Malcovich! Or maybe we should say, John Malcovich reminds us of Hugh! Marie |

Second Birthday! | Thank you for taking time to write. We love hearing from you! |
just got through going through your dec. newsletter. thanks for sharing. again...no matter where i have lived, i have always watched for a bookstore that could just barely touch yours. sorry, there are none! Dear Mr. McCormick: Two summers ago I visited your store and you helped me find information on my father, who grew up in Greenville during the 20s and 30s. I remember my visit and your hospitality very fondly. This morning I knocked my Greenville Writers Coffee Mug off of my workbench and broke it. How can I go about ordering a replacement from you? It has been my favorite mug since my visit to Greenville. ------Thank you, R T Mary Dayle -- I thought you might enjoy seeing some photos of a "Delta" luncheon I gave for the ladies in my exercise class. A little bit of home far away. Sunshine is not a normal thing in Belgium, so we were all happy. On the left is black-eyed pea salad with Italian dressing and on the right is chicken salad. The aspic came from Martha Stamps' The New Southern Basics. The eggs were made with Vidalia Onion Dressing from The Crown.
Hope you, Hugh, the puppies, kitties, and book sales are all well. -----M F
Loved the last [news]letter, and great letter about the kindle, and I know that you both will outlive me and for God's sake keep that incredibly wondrous store open. Thank you both for the wonderful effort you put into every signing, all the features in the newsletter, the "treasure box" of Greenville's history in the back, not to mention the great pictures of writers, and the fun jewelry... even the great sarcastic wit from you know who. McCormick's has been a treasure in my life for 50 years, and thank you for being there. --Love, J I have just explored your wonderful web site! I do miss the people in the Delta. I will see you at the Oxford Book Conference, if you attend. --A |
again, i must say, i just go through your web page every few days. your owen is just the cutest and i know he is loved and spoiled...as he should be. nothing like a baby to keep us going and thinking positive things.
we have a nice bookstore here. that is not one of those huge "things" oh how i hate those! anyway, it is in an old historic building downtown in our little town. i was telling them about you. the owner said he may be forced to drive to the delta and see your place! see, i can't wait to brag on you. have a wonderful day. hugs, m w I just want to tell you how much I enjoyed visiting your book store last Monday. I am the person from LA who can't wait to return to your store. Please place me on your newsletter list. Good afternoon!
Please, PLEASE tell me y'all still have some of your lovely brown water available for purchase! Please!!
Wow, that sounded a bit more desperate than I had intended. Oh, well. :)
While I fully intend to make the trek to visit your fine establishment as soon as I can devote a weekend to the journey (four hours both ways is a bit much for a single day!), I would love to order some of your water for my own pleasure and that of my fellow aspiring writer.
Just say the word, and I'll call on my next break with Visa card in hand. Thanks in advance!
Blessings, E
just love the newsletter. Now I need to come shopping!! Yay for Boo’s book!! I’ll be by on Saturday…in case you want to run and hide or anything. Ha. --EEW Mary Dayle, I love your newsletters! -- LMH
Hello Hugh and Mary Dayle, Another great newsletter. Hope that the family has a wonderful celebration whenever it happens. PG Hi Hugh and Mary Dayle -- This is a marvelous newsletter. It makes me want to come back to Greenville and spend the winter READING. Merry Christmas to you both ---E I've always loved McCormick Book Inn, my first book seller from my teen years -- and I enjoy the welcoming ambiance of the circle of chairs around the hearth and table -- have been to a lot of bookstores lately, but yours is the most inviting.
All the best, K good morning delta memories. no matter where i have lived, i always reach out and search for another wonderful bookstore like yours! there are none! your ears should be burning, i always tell the owners about mccormick's. the fire place, the rockers and hours spent enjoying the talents of so many. thanks for the memories. ---hugs, m. w. A friend sent me a copy of your monthly news letter .. very nice to see there is some culture still left in Greenville. I am still proud to be from "The Delta". --TC
If you maintain an e-mail distribution list for your newsletter, may I add my name? It's all very interesting for a former Greenvillian. Although I no longer have family in Greenville, I occasionally get back there. In fact, I usually try to stop by the bookstore to browse for new things to add to my Mississippi authors collection. I'm glad to know about your collection of Greenville things, particularly the yearbooks, and the link to archived newspapers. As a writer and photographer I've been researching the history of Greenville, albeit somewhat casually, with an eye toward a book somewhere down the road. --RJ Mary Dayle and Hugh, My visit to McCormick Book Inn, followed the remarkable tour of Greenville, will always be a special memory of my travels to the Delta. And, I certainly plan to schedule a return visit. Your bookstore is a treasure. The two of you are role models for any of us who wish to promote and preserve the great legacies of Southern writing and literature. To say "thank you" is not enough, but I am so fortunate to have met you and to know that the Greenville writers are being promoted by devotees of your amazing intensity and level of dedication. Thanks always for a remarkable afternoon. I hope to repay the hospitality. WG Great newsletter, website, etc. Thanks for putting me on the list. -- S Mary Dayle & Hugh: I caught my wife considering a MS Book purchase from someone else. I have severely reprimanded her (maybe she actually listened). Could you add her to your e-mail list… LT I want to say that I have been perusing the McCormick's website, and it is amazing. I am rushing like crazy but all I want to do is read everything on it--each item of which then leads me on to something else I really don't have time to be reading but read anyway.
Best, B.R. For what it is worth, thanks for having me on your e-mailing list. You people and your store are special in this community. --hb Dear Mary Dayle and Hugh: Many thanks for your warm hospitality... We all had a wonderful time in Mississippi, and everyone who talks about it or has written me about it invariably mentions the Book Inn among the highlights. Your setting, your reading, and your excellent inventory of books were unsurpassed. You two certainly present Greenville at its best. I, for one, am still busy reading. Very best to you both, E. R. Hugh and Mary Dayle, Yesterday was a lot of fun with the signing. Thanks for a good afternoon. Want to make it to more signings and events. I went to the Book Inn website and saw the announcement about Gizmo. I am devastated. So sad. I know you all must be receiving all manner of condolences. There can't be anyone who loves the Book Inn who didn't also love Gizmo. So I'm thinking of you. Love to you both ---K.S. How fabulous you are! Your Delta Literary Tour site is fantastic. --best, J T
I visited your store in late January and had a delightful time talking with you. I hope to visit MCCBI on another trip to Greenville. Thank you for all your time and the wonderful conversation that day, R. E.
Hello and Happy New Year to you all!
My mama loved ya'll's store and was a faithful customer for many years. I live in Belgium and am so glad to see you are online.
May you have an excellent business year in 2008, MFR
Hugh, Thanks so much for having taken the time to visit with me during my time in your store. Visiting with you and dinner at Doe's was an absolutley awesome way to spend the last day of 2007. It was, as always, such a pleasure to spend time with you.
Happy New Year to you and Mrs. Mc Cormick. Take Care. -- KB
Hey, Thanks for another wonderful highlight of my holiday visit home. Always a pleasure to spend some time at the Inn. -- P. Dear McCormick Booksellers,
I found your site through a Google search. I was looking for places to buy the book Delta Italians. I am from Yazoo City but now live in Pisa, Italy as a missionary. I remembered seeing this book on one of my trips home in the past and would live to have it for Christmas. I will be coming to the states for a couple of weeks but don't think I'll make it to Greenville. Is there any way I can order the books and have them shipped to Yazoo?
Thanks so much for your help. M. S. CCC-Agape Italia
p.s. I loved reading your website. Great Job!! I’m so delighted with your wonderful website. I feel like I just returned from a shopping spree to one of my favorite Greenville shops. It was for me a reminder of my many trips by and of your choice selection of reads. Needless to say it also reminded me of the friends I have there. This really helps with my Christmas list. I’m happy for your success. My very best to you. -- CK Thank you for this site. It enables me to come home for a while. I have been in your book store so many times. I loved every minute of it. There is no book store any where around that has the warmth of yours. I now live in NC. and do not get home much. Thanks for all the " cliff notes" you made available !!! --- M.A.G. I love McCormick’s website and it’s totally fascinating to read. Why don’t you write a book? I love getting your emails! Don’t take me off the list! McCormick’s is one of my favorite places on earth. I just don’t get by there often enough.
Have a great day! L. B. Dear Hugh & Mary Dayle, I was delighted to discover your website a few months ago! I have been intending to drop you a note to let you know so ever since, but alas...time has a way of going by without us doing the things we should. I was born and grew up in Greenville, leaving at age 18 for Texas where I still live. I have such fond memories of your McCormick Book Inn with many recollections of books bought there, including some of my beloved collection of Anne of Green Gables (with a few coming from Greenville Office Supply back in the day when they had a "book corner" tucked amongst their paper, pens, and typewriter ribbons). Visits back to Greenville through the years to see my folks always included a stop by your Inn--leaving with an arm full of books! My dream is to return there in a couple of years for a "book signing," as I am now working on a novel with a Delta setting. I belong to a local writing group and have written a few short stories and poems, all with Delta settings/themes. It would be such an honor to one day add my name to your roll of literary natives! Again, thank you for your great website! I have spent time on your Web site, and it's a delight. Your treatment of the Faulkner story is neat. All the best, K. D.
When I was last in your store in the late summer/early fall I bought a coffee cup with your website address on it and at that time the site was still under construction.
As I write, I'm drinking coffee from that cup and decided to check on the website progress. Wow, it's awesome. Of course, I wouldn't have expected anything less from you. I feel a kinship of sorts with you as I am carrying on a 65 year old family sausage, meat market, and barbecue business and we are the last "old-time" store left in our community. But isn't it fun in spite of all the obstacles which are seemingly endless and targeted towards the "little guy." Again, congratulations on a most awesome website and even more importantly such a treasure of a store that has withstood the test of time. Your Book Inn Web site is one of my all-time favorites, but you have outdone yourself with your Mississippi Reads page. It's absolutely fantastic. Not only is your Mississippi Reads site fantastic, the story about your dad's Faulkner photograph and the Delta hunting trip is just wonderful--and it adds a new dimension to the reading and discussion of Go Down, Moses.
With great appreciation and admiration, A. A. |
